Every February, the annual and beloved Gumbo Cook-off hits Mexico Beach. This year’s event will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025, opening at 10 a.m. and is a major fundraiser for Mexico Beach community events.

Taking place for over 25 years, this gumbo festival brings together delicious food, fun, and live entertainment on the beautiful shores of Mexico Beach. A ticket to this fun event will let you sample all the gumbo and Brunswick stews available, plus you can enjoy some live music, too

Chefs compete for Best Gumbo and Best Stew awards along with cash prizes. The festival is not just limited to gumbo and stew, oh, no. Hot dogs, sausage dogs, delectable desserts, and refreshing beverages are among other foods that will be served during the festival by assorted vendors.

When and Where is the Gumbo Cook-off in Mexico Beach?

The festival takes place at the Mexico Beach Boat Ramp Park, located at 109 44th St, and is a one-day event, so don’t blink or it’s gone. The Cook-off is held in February during the Mardi Gras celebration with plenty of free beads. Participants all use Mardi Gras themed decor with brightly colored tables.

The Cook-off starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 15 and lasts until the gumbo is gone. Tickets are sold at the door when the festival opens. All proceeds go towards special events held in Mexico Beach, including the Best Blast on the Beach Fireworks festivities. Mexico Beach always has an unforgettable July 4th Firework Show, lighting up the night sky in true patriotic style, put on by Special Events for Mexico Beach, Inc.

Do you think you have what it takes to win the Gumbo Cook-off?

There is no application fee to enter. All entries must complete an entry form and are required to produce five gallons or more of their specialty Gumbo or Brunswick stew. Check out the Official Website for an entry application.

A panel of local food connoisseurs will determine who will be the King of this gumbo competition. The winners are all competing for the Gumbo King title along with cash prizes. There is a Gumbo Category and a Brunswick Stew category. First Place takes home $500, Second Place $250, and Third Place taking $150 in each category. There is also recognition for Best Team Spirit and Best Decorated in theme Mardi Gras.
